The latest Club News Letter A happy and healthy new year to all our members and families. With a new year comes excitement and enthusiasm for every aero modeler, I am hoping mine returns. 2009 was not the best for flying due to the weather, we only managed one Wednesday night Chinese takeaway at RFC, but some flying was managed most weekends and the barby was lit most sessions, with no reported illness from our excellent chef Bob. Carter airstrip has seen flying most weekends, with only minimum military activity due to our lads being away overseas fighting a war none of us wanted. our grass roller is being transported to Carter, and Pete Rose has offered to use his pick-up to try and level off the mole hills. Moles seem to have vacated the area, good news. The license for Carter has been dealt with, the grass cutting contractor has been paid and the club telephone for Carter (01980 626455) has a new provider, saving £29 a year. Please remember at Carter you MUST call the club number before each session, and if there is no answer on the answer phone, you should assume its no flying. Air Ops are not always available, and sometimes I get home a bit late to make the call. At RFC we have made a few alterations to increase safety. We now have a pilots flying box cut from the grass. Once your model is airborne, please get into the box as soon as possible, this is for each pilot to communicate at all times, we don't want wanderers. Another new feature is a separate start up box for models with engines larger than 50cc, when starting in this box you must have an assistant to "hold" your model. Jets, yep we are getting some, lee Snowball, a new member, has been clearing the air at Carter with his. Up until now we have not really had much interest in them, but two other members are, and we have decided that they can be flown safely at Carter. At RFC its not possible to use them due to low flying Army helicopters. Also, as its on farm land, there is a risk of setting fire to any crops surrounding our airfield. Dave Osborne has set up our club website. its still being developed, and you can find it on WWW.flying-druids.co.uk/ thank you Dave. BMFA membership is now due from 1st Jan, senior £29, junior £15, juniors under 18 years, family members joint father/son/ daughter £40. I will process for you on receipt of your payment. Please make out cheques to Flying Druids MAC. now we have an excellent mower, two rollers and a petrol grass strimmer, I can reduce our membership fees for 2010, as long as we maintain 100 plus members. This will be due on May 1st 2010. I estimate a reduction of £20 will cover us, and a one off payment of £65 will be due on or before May 1st, this will help with the recession a little as we all want to keep our hobby. Remember, we have two superb flying fields, and no committee to nag us. Roll on the summer and some warmer flying weather. Tony. |
